I've got a 10 year old Garmin 240 Fishfinder with original transducer. Always at the end of the season, the buildup of algae and barnacles reduces the signal clarity, but I'm wondering if transducers "age" per se? I could buy a completely new sonar unit w/transducer, but wasn't sure this is a necessary expense. Is it just the barnacles I should have scraped off, or should I consider a new transducer? I'm sure there is some better informed knowledge and experience out there than my own. Thanks.

To cut down the algae and barnacle build up use transducer antifouling paint
